BASEBALL: Palo Alto Moves Past Monta Vista

The Palo Alto High baseball team defeated Monta Vista High-Cupertino 10-2 in a Central Coast Section playoff game Wednesday afternoon in Palo Alto.

A Division I first round matchup, the potent Palo Alto offense proved to be too much as the defending CCS champs rolled out to a big lead and never looked back.

Top of the order hitters BJ Boyd, Christoph Bono, Will Glazier and Drake Swezey all had big days for the Vikings in the first round win.

Boyd stole a pair of bags and rocked an RBI double in the second inning to push the Paly lead to 4-0.

Monta Vista (15-13), the No. 14 seed in the bracket, tied Milpitas for second place in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League El Camino Division.

Junior Joey Shepard recorded two hits for the purple and yellow clad visitors on Wednesday. Jimmy Roslund and senior captain Grant Manley each had hits in the two-run inning for Monta Vista in the fifth.

Palo Alto (25-9) will play SCVAL De Anza foe Homestead High on Saturday in one of four quarterfinals.

Graham Marchant started on the hill for Paly and pitched five innings to earn the win.
