Congressional Reps Place Bet on Upcoming Stanford/UConn Women's Basketball Game

If UConn Huskies win, Rep. Eshoo pledges to send wine and artichokes from Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Mateo counties to Rep. Courtney of Connecticut.

U.S. Reps. Anna Eshoo and Joe Courtney have placed a friendly wager on Sunday's Final Four women's basketball matchup between Stanford and the University of Connecticut, they said in a joint statement today.

Eshoo, D-Calif., and Courtney, D-Conn., wagered delicacies from their respective regions on the game which is Sunday at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.

If the Stanford Cardinal wins, Courtney will send Eshoo Munson's chocolates, Selbuort Valley Farms maple syrup, Cato Corner cheese, Deep River chips, Jarmoc cigars and Cottrell beer from Connecticut, the representatives said.

If the UConn Huskies win, Eshoo will send over California wines and fresh artichokes grown in her district, which spans San Mateo, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties.

"I'm looking forward to an epic matchup between two titan teams," Eshoo said in her statement. "Stanford women are facing a strong, top-seeded team from Connecticut, but they've got the guts and grit to 'take it to the paint' and bring home a victory."

Courtney countered by saying, "Stanford has produced great teams over the years, but Coach Geno Auriemma has this group looking unstoppable."

UConn is widely favored, having won its last 44 games including beating Stanford 76-57 on Nov. 11.
