Family Fun Day and Baby Fair, a Nearby Library Book Sale, Volleyball Camp and More!

Five fun, kid-friendly activities going on in Palo Alto and nearby over the next week.

Where/When: Downtown Community Center at , 555 Waverly St., Palo Alto. This Saturday, Aug. 13, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Go: Fun for the whole family! Family-centered activities all afternoon like “Yoga with Kids” at 10:15 a.m., a performance by reggae singer and preschool teacher Craig at 11 a.m., famous children’s performer Andy Z. at noon, Music Together for the whole family at 1:15 p.m., and much more. Plus, the “Meet B.A.B.I. (Bay Area Birth Information)” fair will be going on all day, with booths by local birthing and parenting professionals like doulas and midwifes, baby planners, breastfeeding experts, nanny agencies, diaper services and many more. Other activities will be ongoing throughout the day as well, such as arts and crafts, a stroller obstacle course, ball pits and more.

LAWN BOWLING OPEN HOUSE

Where/When: at 474 Embarcadero Road Uppr, Palo Alto. This Sunday, Aug. 14, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Go: Try a fun, new, unique sport! Come to the Palo Alto Lawn Bowling Club’s open house this Sunday, meet coaches and other new friends, and learn how to play. It’s not bocce ball, club members say, but there are similarities, so if you like bocce, you just may be in luck. Refreshments will be served! All ages are welcome.

Pricing: Free!

 

SUMMER ‘POST-CAMP’

Where/When: , 3921 Fabian Way, Palo Alto. Summer “post-camp” week is Aug. 22-26.

Why Go: For most summer camps, the last day is Friday, Aug. 19. So, if you’re looking for something fun to occupy the kids for one more week before school starts, the Oshman Family JCC has your answer—check out Summer Post-Camp week, Aug. 22-26, for school-aged children! Each day has a fun and exciting new field trip destination. Monday is Great America, Tuesday is Golfland USA, Wednesday is Jungle Island, Thursday is the California Academy of Sciences and Friday is a fun Shabbat celebration at Ortega Park. Pricing: Weekly rate is $325 for members/$350 for nonmembers. Daily rate is $80 for members/$90 for nonmembers. Fees for field trips may apply.

 

VOLLEYBALL SUMMER CLINICS FOR ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOLERS

Where/When: Arillaga Family Gym, 600 Alma St., Menlo Park. Week of Aug. 15-19, sessions at 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1:30-4:30 p.m for middle schoolers, and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for grades three through five.

Why Go: If you have a middle schooler who wants to try out for the school volleyball team this year, what better way to get him or her prepared than with a week of professional skill-building with the Palo Alto Elite Volleyball Club? This is a nonprofit, competitive, community-based volleyball club dedicated to helping players build skills, compete locally, regionally and even nationally, and learn the valuable life lessons the sport can offer. During the clinic, kids will participate in warm-ups, skill drills, scrimmages and conditioning. Registering online in advance is recommended, but drop-in spots may be available. Register online at the link above but do not mail documents, bring them to the first day of the clinic.

Pricing: $225 for the five-day clinic.


FRIENDS OF THE MOUNTAIN VIEW LIBRARY BOOK SALE

Where/When: Bookmobile Garage, 585 Franklin St., Mountain View. This Saturday, Aug. 13, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 14, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: If you’ve got a family of avid readers, then score some great prices on used books by attending this weekend’s library book sale in nearby Mountain View!
