GIRLS LACROSSE: Palo Alto Holds Off Los Gatos
Vikings win battle of first place teams in SCVAL midseason showdown.
In a dual between two undefeated Santa Clara Valley Athletic League teams, the Palo Alto High girls lacrosse team rose to the occasion once again on its home turf.
Palo Alto defeated Los Gatos High 13-10, putting the first blemish on a previously spotless league record for the visitors.
The Vikings closed the game on a 7-4 run, highlighted by late goals by Nina Kelty and Charlotte Biffar.

Despite Paly surging ahead to a 5-1 lead during the first half, Los Gatos stormed back and tied the game early in the second half at six apiece.
However, the home team survived the surge and responded with a solid stretch of play in the game’s final half.

The hosts dished out eight assists and were led by Kimmie Flather in the goal scoring department with four.
Julia Poppy, Emily Benatar, and Jordan Smith also found the back of the net.
Taylor Bawden and Danielle Trapani both had monster showings for the ‘Cats. Each player recorded a hat trick (three goals) in the league bout. Girls field hockey standout Noel Painter also scored for Los Gatos.
Los Gatos is now 3-2 overall and 2-1 league, while Paly improves to 4-4 overall and 4-0 in league play.
