GIRLS LACROSSE: Palo Alto Tops Los Gatos

The Palo Alto High girls lacrosse team is one win away from capturing a Santa Clara Valley Athletic League tournament title.

Paly fended off a second half spurt from Los Gatos High to advance to Saturday’s championship match with a 15-9 victory over Los Gatos Wednesday evening at Palo Alto High.

Charlotte Biffar and Kimmie Flather combined for eight goals for the Vikings, keeping the green and white clad bunch charging ahead during the weeklong SCVAL tournament action.

Biffar had five goals, while Flather netted a hat trick. Palo Alto led 8-3 at the half, but Los Gatos roared back in the second stanza.

Paly suffered back-to-back yellow card penalties with just over 10 minutes left to play, opening the door for a ‘Cats charge.

Los Gatos cut the lead to 10-8, led by strong showings from Sheila Brodnik (three goals), Noel Painter, (two goals) and Danielle Trapani (two goals).

A quick Paly timeout settled things down for the hosts as the home team rattled off five straight scores before a late Los Gatos goal.

Palo Alto will play for the championship on Saturday, May 14th at Woodside High School at 11:00 am.  They will play the winner of the other semi final between St. Francis High-Mountain View  and Leland High-San Jose.
