Stanford QB Named Pac-12 Player of the Week

He threw for a career-high 360 yards plus two touchdowns, including 117 yards and six passing first downs during the comeback fourth quarter.

Senior quarterback Josh Nunes has been named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week following Stanford’s 54-48 overtime victory over Arizona on Saturday.The honor is his first.

Nunes led Stanford back from a 14-point deficit in the Pac-12 win over Arizona.

He threw for a career-high 360 yards plus two touchdowns, including 117 yards and six passing first downs during the comeback fourth quarter.

The first-year starter completed three passes greater than 40 yards in the victory.  He finished the day 21 of 34 passing with no interceptions.

Nunes accounted for five total touchdowns in the victory, including three with his feet.  

With no previous career rushing touchdowns, the 6-4 redshirt junior ran once, twice and a third time for scores against Arizona, the final two coming in the closing minutes of regulation.  Additionally, Nunes twice scrambled on third-and-long situations for runs of 10-plus yards, sustaining eventual touchdown-scoring drives.

No. 17 Stanford (4-1, 2-1) next plays its annual non-conference game against No. 7 Notre Dame (5-0), this edition on Saturday in South Bend, Ind.  The noon PT / 3 p.m. ET kickoff will be broadcast nationally on NBC.
