A graduation ceremony will be held this evening for 55 East Palo Alto youths who have completed a six-week employment training program.
One East Palo Alto's Sponsored Employment Program is designed to give high-risk youths between the ages of 14 and 24 years old the chance to gain job skills and training over the summer.
The program's overall goal is to help prevent crime and violence in East Palo Alto by getting young people off the streets and giving them the skills to find jobs in the community, program coordinator Teirrah McNair said.
The program includes courses in computer skills, financial literacy and leadership, and connects students to peer mentors and adult volunteers.
Graduates are placed in jobs in the nonprofit, government and private sectors.
Today's graduation celebration will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Eastside College Preparatory School theater at 1041 Myrtle St. in East Palo
