Could the Dixon May Fair Leave Dixon?

It's “reasonable to question why there hasn't been more of an effort to join the Solano County Fair with the Dixon May Fair and relocate both to a more central Solano property," said the Vacaville Reporter editorial.

The Vacaville Reporter ran an editorial Sunday about the long-term vision of the Solano County Fair as it relates to the county fair grounds in Vallejo, near Six Flags Discovery Kingdom.

The Solano360 Project calls for a revitalization that 149-acre property in Vallejo, but the editorial says it’s “reasonable to question why there hasn't been more of an effort to join the Solano County Fair with the Dixon May Fair and relocate both to a more central Solano property.”

Considering the fact that Dixon is the eastern-most point of Solano County on I-80, the presumption here is that the Dixon May Fair would move west, toward the center of the county.

That would mean it wouldn’t take place in Dixon, and since the Solano County Fair is held at the end of the summer, it possibly wouldn't take place in the month of May, either. But that's not the current plan.

“Without a private offer or alternative vision, or any expressed desire between the two fairs to join forces, supervisors can only work with what they've got,” continues the editorial. “In this case, the plan that is headed their way seems like a reasonable, long-term proposal that could stimulate the economy for both the city of Vallejo and Solano County as a whole.”

What do you think about the suggestion that the two fairs could merge and happen at a "more central Solano property?"

I don't care which Fair gets better attendance or which one has better entertainment. The Dixon May Fair is our Fair and we go to it because it is a part of us. I think this is a good example of people who have little “glue” in the town getting involved with a surreptitious plan of their own. Note: You are more than welcome to embrace, participate and contribute but please don’t try to take it away. Be forewarned of the backlash that will envelope and overtake you and your treacherous plans if you try. Written with a sharp pen and tongue in check, sort of.

Basically, the Dixon May Fair is an icon. Better entertainment is not measureable since they both have great acts. You can measure the amount of attendance but that is irrelevant since the Dixon May Fair Draws a crowd because of what and WHERE it is. In a Nutshell. I agree with Gary, if you don't like the Fair, Don't Go. It's ours and you can't have it without a huge fight. I volunteer there every year so I do have a vested interest.

I am with Gary. Leave it alone. This is Dixon and our May Fair. I feel safe at the Dixon Fair. I am sorry but I do not feel that way in Vallejo. If the Supervisors want a new Fairgrounds in Vallejo, so be it. But again dont mess with Dixon.

I was just looking at City-Data.com. Fairfield and Vallejo are running at around twice the national average for murders, rapes, assaults and robberies. Dixon is about average, and Vacaville a little below the national average. I think we need to get the western half of Solano County to get a grip on their crime before we start combining activities.

I say leave Dixon Fair where it is...there is already a Solano County Fair...are we not May Fair? Who in the hell wants to go to Vallejo? Too much going on there!
