Poll: Where Will You Head This 4th of July?

With the Fourth of July holiday falling on a Wednesday this year, are you staying close to home for a barbeque, or heading out?

For the chef or the person preparing the food, it can be a long day, sort of a Thanksgiving in summer.

But with the Fourth of July falling on a Wednesday this year, there's no day after on which to recover, as there is after Thanksgiving. So do you take an extra day to relax?

What are your plans?

If you only take one day off, do you travel, or do you enjoy the backyard?

Do you plunge right back into work the rest of the week? Or do you take the whole week off—for those of you that have vacations—if a holiday like the Fourth of July falls mid-week?

Let us know in the comments. Then take the poll below.

I'm flying back into San Jose from NYC on the 4th - arriving in time to get to Shoreline and see some fine aeronautical displays. I'll be missing what New York claims is the greatest fireworks show on the planet but that's OK - it's time to head for home.

@JamesThurber, you look like you have all the fun. I didn't know about the aeronautical displays. Tell us more!

Macy's presents a monstrous 4th of July fireworks display on the Hudson River - four (4) barges loaded with fireworks. Forty-thousand shells fire continuously which gives a full twenty-five minute show. I always thought the greatest fireworks show was in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The nearby base, Warren Air Force Base (a strategic weapon center) ensured that the show was truly "atomic." But the weather in New York City has been very hot of late and there are possible thunderstorms on the 4th of July. So I'll just have to "gut it out" and enjoy the show at Shoreline - which I am very much looking forward to.
