Local Voices: Project Safety Net Partner to Throw Bonfire for Teens Affected by Suicide

One of Project Safety Net's valued partners in our work is Break Through the Static. I'd like to take this opportunity to let the founder, Jade Chamness, share a bit about the organization.

One of Project Safety Net's valued partners in our work is Break Through the Static.  I'd like to take this opportunity to let the founder, Jade Chamness, share a bit about the organization.

From Jade:

Break Through the Static believes “We’re Better When We’re Together.” Local teens are invited to come find out what that means and learn about the vision for this new, dynamic Peninsula community this Saturday, as Break Through the Static (Static) hosts a bonfire on Saturday September 10th from 8pm – 10pm at the firepit at Boy Scout Office at Lucie Stern Community Center in Palo Alto, CA.

The bonfire event will be an opportunity for Peninsula high schoolers to connect to a new unique and understanding Palo Alto-based community with a deep appreciation of the adolescent culture nurtured by dynamic adults, spirited mental health professionals and impassioned youth, specifically designed to support and empower teens impacted by suicide and their advocates.

The event program includes a performances by local Palo Alto High School band “Relax, You Can Do This” and Mountain View High School rapper Adam “Aspen” Spencley. Teens will have the opportunity to make campfire game favorite “Chubby Bunny”, make s’mores, win gift cards to In-N-Out and AMC Theatres, meet local teens and learn more about Break Through the Static.

History of Break Through the Static

Break Through the Static is the vision of Jade Chamness, Founder and CEO. Jade’s father died by suicide when she was 17 years old. While emerging from this life-altering event, Jade turned an analytical eye toward the services available to teens affected by suicide. In her experience, everyone from family to professionals did not fully understand the realities of teens and suicide. She learned the hard way that teens need more support than is currently offered. Jade constructed a support network around her where one was lacking and has rebuilt her life. She is committed to ensuring other teens have the support and empowerment they deserve. Jade started Break Through the Static, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, in 2009. Her dedication to a support network has become the cornerstone for the global community Static is working to facilitate. Static is an early innovator in the nationwide movement to improve the support and services available for suicide-bereaved youth, their advocates and allies.
