Evergreen Park Celebrates!

This is article is from guest writer, Anna Luehrs, Palo Alto High School sophomore and Evergreen Park resident, in support of Palo Alto’s Caring Neighborhood Challenge http://www.devassetspaloalto.org/neighborhoods.html

On June 16th there was an Evergreen Park Celebration. This celebration was held to celebrate Deb and Eric Goldeen's 50th birthyear and is also our annual block party. They invited neighbors and fellow celebrants to celebrate their birthyear at a block party that had dinner, dancing, games and entertainment in it. Around the block party there were flags hung from trees, which told the people that there was a block party going to happen soon. When the celebration started, there was a lot of food to go around and it was very good. There were BBG Ribs, Chicken, potato salad, corn, and watermelon slices. Along with this amazing food, many of the people who came to this celebration brought other veggie, cheese, fruit, and salad dishes to share. There was also drinks provided to go along with the food. After or even before eating the dinner, there were gluten-free cakes from Prolific Oven and a selection of cookies to choose from. There were two forms of entertainment at this celebration, and the entertainment for the younger children was Mr. Horsefeathers. He is a magician, and did an assortment of tricks that amazed many people. Some of these tricks included juggling balls, balloons and colorful ropes. After his show was over, many people lined up to get the balloon animals that he was making. He also made crazy hats and even mustaches. After Mr. Horsefeathers finished his act, the band started to play. This lead to dancing and people continued having a good time. The band that performed at this celebration is called “Stan's Band” and they performed for about two hours. Everyone who came to this celebration must have had an amazing time. Many of the people that attended this block party talked with almost everyone there, and there were many people laughing. This is a time where everyone got together and had a great time. This celebration that honors the 50th birthdays of Deb and Eric Goldeen and also our annual block party is a time where the Evergreen Park community can grow and flourish as a community and help the younger and older generations get to know each other more and also meet more of their own generation. These parties happen not too often, but happen often enough that everyone can share their current stories and also everyone can keep in touch and not drift apart as a community. Another plus side about this block party idea is that everyone comes together between a certain time and have a small break during their busy lives just to talk to their neighbors. This Evergreen Park Celebration was our annual block party, and also a celebration of Deb and Eric Goldeen turning 50.
