Viewfinder: JCC Mitzvah Day on MLK Monday

Hundreds participated in a day of service which included helping at shelters and planting trees.

The Oshman Family Jewish Community Center held its fifth annual Mitzvah Day on Monday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The annual event is a day of service, this time with over 800 volunteers ranging in age from two to 85, according to communications manager Rebecca Sladek Nowlis. Among other service activites, they brought 546 pounds of fruit from local homes to deliver to food banks, provided food to 250 people at the Sunnyvale Armory shelter and the Redwood City Maple Street homeless shelter. The volunteers also made 56 scarves for foster children and planted 70 fruit trees.
