Facebook Team, Zuckerberg Run Half-Marathon for Charity

Facebook employees ran through Palo Alto and Menlo Park to raise money for Eastside College Preparatory

Mark Zuckerberg and over 150 other members of the Facebook team took to the streets today as part of a charity run with the proceeds going towards Eastside College Preparatory School in East Palo Alto.

The runners ran in two groups, depending on if they wanted to run a 5K or a half-marathon. The 13-mile half-marathon, which Zuckerberg chose to run in, started at Bol Park and ended at Facebook’s current offices in Menlo Park.

Facebook employees who wanted to run paid a $50 entrance fee. Half was used for T-shirt's and supplies for the run and the other half, about $4,000, will be donated.

The run was inspired by Jared Morgenstern, Product Ninja at Facebook, who realized that the distance from Facebook's current campus past it's old campuses was half the length of a marathon. This revelation inspired Friday’s run, which also had a philanthropic goal. Each marathon runner paid $50 to participate.
