Week Ahead: City Votes on Living in Vehicles, Gordon Biersch/Pacific Art League Pair Up

If you don't want to drive, consider a walk or bike ride to these events in Palo Alto this week.

Monday, Aug. 5

The City of Palo Alto will consider adopting an ordinance that prohibits people from living in their cars within city borders at a special council session Monday. The City expects to get to the agenda item at 8:40 p.m. at City Hall, 250 Hamilton Ave.

Who said art lovers prefer wine? Not beer drinkiers! Stop by a fundraiser to support the Pacific Art League at Gordon Biersch at 6 p.m., at 640 Emerson, Palo Alto. There will be a food and beer pairing, brewery tour, art exhibit, iPad Art Demo and live music. Tickets cost $50. A portion of the sale each ticket will be donated to PAL and is tax deductible. Stanford University’s Division of International, Comparative and Area Studies (ICA) Film Festival's showcase presents "Downpour(Iran, 1971) looks at the life of a teacher who arrives in a new city and new job in the pre-revolutionary Iran at 7 p.m. at Cubberley Auditorium, 485 Lasuen Mall, Stanford, CA 94305. Free and open to the public.

Thursday, Aug. 8

Oakland’s Mara Hruby performs at Summer Jazz in the Stanford Shopping Center Nordstrom Courtyard. The show starts at 6 p.m., but get there early to grab a good spot to see the young sultry singer.
