Week Ahead: International Films, Music and Fireworks

Things to do in Palo Alto during the week of July 1st.

Bing Music Series in the Stanford Hospital Atrium hosts John Phillip Souza and Jelly Roll Morton as they play American standards through George Gershwin’s era. Also guitarist Mark Holzinger is featured with veteran bassist Bing Nathan and Eric Shifrin. Wednesday, July 3 at 12:30 p.m. Free and open to the public.

Stanford University’s Division of International, Comparative and Area Studies (ICA) Film Festival's first summer showcase is "Strike" (Germany/Poland, 2006) depicts a nearly illiterate woman who becomes one of the founders of Poland's Solidarity union. Wednesday, July 3 at 7 p.m.at Cubberley Auditorium, 485 Lasuen Mall, Stanford, CA 94305. Free and open to the public.

Visit Stanford's Cantor Art Center which will be open to the public for free on Thursday, July 4. Catch these special exhibits "Storied Past: Four Centuries of French Drawings from the Blanton Museum of Art," "Inspired by Temptation: Odilon Redon and Saint Anthony" and "Drawn to the Body: French Figure Drawings from the Cantor Arts Center Collection." Opens at 11 a.m.

Every year South Bay residents can get a treat with the City of Mountain View and Radio Disney's presentation of the Fourth of July Fireworks Extravaganza at Shoreline Amphitheatre. Cost $13.50 to watch inside Shoreline, free outside with a blanket and snacks.
