6 Great Events in Palo Alto and Beyond This Weekend

Attend free concerts in Palo Alto or head to the coast for Mavericks or whale watching.

A massive, 40-foot swell is expected Friday for the invitational competition of the world’s best surfers. Viewers are not allowed on the beach because of high tide and surges. A Viewing Festival will be held on the grounds of the Oceano Hotel & Spa, just down the road from Mavericks in Princeton Harbor. Friday.

Free Organ Recital at Stanford Memorial Church

University Organist Dr. Robert Huw Morgan will kick off a year-long celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Fisk-Nanney organ with a concert on January 24 in Memorial Church. He will be performing music from the seventeenth century to the present day.

Whale Watching at Point Reyes National Seashore

View migrating gray whales and breeding elephant seals at Point Reyes National Seashore through March, but mid-January is the peak. Volunteers will be available to answer questions about elephant seals from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and about whales from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All weekend.

Free Women's Wellness & Self-Care Seminar

Do you need to tune-up your attitude, diet and lifestyle? This seminar will give you the boost you need in an atmosphere of compassion, encouragement and community spirit. Free Family Night at Palo Alto Family YMCA

The Palo Alto Family YMCA will host a Family Fun Night that includes movie, family games, arts and crafts, snacks and socializing. There will be a basketball challenge for youth. Saturday. 

Free Chamber Music Concert at First Congregational Church

Enjoy a free concert of enchanting chamber music by Fauré, Ravel, Villa-Lobos, and Conteloube held here in Palo Alto at First Congregational Church. Sunday.
