'In The Heights' Musical, Moonlight Run and Quakeville

Thursday Sept. 19

  • Join the Palo Alto Players as they salsa their way into your hearts with the production of "In The Heights," winner of four Tony Awards including Best Musical in 2008. The musical looks captures the changing the New York City neighborhood of Washington Heights and the struggle of its residents against that change. Friday, Sept. 20

  • Get your running shoes ready for the 29th Annual Moonlight Run & Walk in Palo Alto at the Baylands Athletic Center. Start time 6 p.m. Consider a 5k or 10k run under the full Harvest moon. Pre-registration for the run is available ONLINE only. Early deadline pre-registration closed Friday Sept. 13, but late and event-day registration remains open and includes a t-shirt only while supplies last. Registration tables open at 6 p.m. Sports teams and club group discounts available. This event is co-presented by the City of Palo Alto and the Palo Alto Weekly. Saturday, Sept. 21

  • Learn essential emergency preparedness during Palo Alto Quakeville 2013 Safety Fair from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Cubberley Community Center, 4000 Middlefield Road. Quakeville is an annual emergency preparedness event to educate and engage the community to be ready when the next Earthquake comes. Enjoy a variety of informational displays and activities for the whole family, check out our Emergency Services Volunteers program and even join the camp-out! Call the Office of Emergency Services at (650) 617-3197 or email Quakeville@cityofpaloalto.org for more information.

  • Want to capture your travels in a unique way? The Pacific Art League hosts a "Travel Sketching" workshop where attendees will learn to do contour drawing, shading, and using shapes to add dimension and create a functional art travel kit. Instructor will e-mail location to students before the workshop. All medias and levels welcome, but portability is essential. Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost: $80/$68. Register here.
