Judy Gittelsohn is a painter and has been painting in the Bay Area for over 40 years. She exhibits widely and her work is collected around the world. Judy follows her own path from one concept to the next using paint as her narrative account. Her focus travels from interpreting words and letters, to beholding the natural world, painting and building a story. Often her work is layered in thoughts, in subjects and in paint. Her paintings are sensitive studies of an idea over time.

Gittelsohn’s work is accessible and open to abstract interpretation. Recognizable forms and shapes are translated. Her paintings evolve through many applications of paint – the surface sometimes obliterating, sometimes offering a glimpse of previous thought and direction. The shapes have a heightened focus on the edges where things overlap and where the unseen touches.

Judy is a Golden Paints Certified Working Artist. Golden is an American Company dedicated to making top quality paint for professional artists. She educates artists about the vast variety of Golden products and their uses.

Judy has worked steadily in the community bringing art to at risk youth, people with disabilities and to the general public. It is in her make up to support and encourage all her students and artists to better their art vocabulary and their enjoyment of art. Judy owned an art studio Art For Well Beings, for 7 years serving people with developmental disabilities. Now, Judy works in the community applying all the tools, curriculum and approaches she has developed.
