As a journalist I've worked for the Pasadena Star News,  The Stanford Daily, Eastern Group Publications (a chain of bilingual newspapers in Los Angeles), KNBC-LA, and BNET. At these respective media, I learned to tell stories in a wide variety of media: print, video, even map mash-ups! Though these media were very diverse in the styles and news they covered, they all were devoted to providing the most accurate information that was relevant to their audience. That's why I believe Patch is in a field of its own, covering news and events that directly impact the lives of its city's residents.

In my spare time, I'm constantly streaming NPR, looking for the best happy hour food deals, bargain clothes shopping, talking to strangers, and sipping iced soy chai lattes.

Your Beliefs

At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable. This disclosure is not a license for you to inject your beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that your beliefs are on the record will cause you to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know.

Politics

I'm a registered Democrat, but I'm fairly moderate. I understand why our nation is a two-party system, but rarely is an issue ever that black and white. Instead of pigeon-holing myself according to my party's beliefs, I try to bypass this bifurcated system and analyze topics through a more open-minded lens. I believe in unbridled freedom of speech, social justice, financial frugality, and green energy.

Religion

I've been lucky enough to be surrounded by people of all faiths, backgrounds, and nationalities. While I don't have a religion myself, I've engaged in enough religious conversations to know that all religions are valid, and no one should ever discount another's religion. So, I live by The Golden Rule: Treat others as you would like to be treated.. And by John Lennon: all you need is love.

Local Hot-Button Issues

Redwood City is one of the most diverse cities on the Peninsula. With a burgeoning start-up community and a lower socioeconomic neighborhood all within 34.6 square miles, no day is ever the same in Redwood City. Development is an evolving process, with the City Council's General Plan to revitalize the downtown area and the potential Saltworks Project that would build a 30,000 person "city" on the 1,436 acre saltworks site in Redwood Shores. With the San Mateo County main courthouse and County seat in Redwood City, noteworthy trials occur on a daily basis. The California High-Speed Rail Authority is also considering placing a station in Redwood City.

@Erin: Sorry to hear about this! Sometimes I try entering variations of the address, like just the street, or sometimes without the city or zip code :\ If nothing works, I usually contact help@patch.com
@George: yes I have heard of this fantastic Khan Academy! I was actually speaking with the RCSD Superintendent Jan Christensen and she mentioned that they were exploring this and other technological tools to incorporate into the classroom. Are you tutoring through the district? Or somewhere else?
@shab: I'm sorry to hear that!! I coincidentally have a lunch date with a friend there tomorrow. It's gotten pretty good reviews, so I hope this was an isolated incident.

I went to Paradise Kabab House this evening and was treated in an extremely rude manner that is completely unacceptable. In our party were 2 adults and my 3 year old daughter. The owner of this restaurant followed me out of the parking lot after our meal and said to us that he remembers us from before and last time we ate at his restaurant and that we made a mess and should not return to his restaurant in the future. I like to support local businesses but have been to this restaurant perhaps 3 times in my entire life. The last time I was in this restaurant was approximately close to 2 years ago. I find it very hard to believe that this owner remembers me and that my child is particularly messy and unlike any other 3 year child eating rice from a plate sitting in a chair at a table. This restaurant states that - \"Paradise Kabab House is about experiencing Persian hospitality, great-tasting home-cooked food, in a warm and friendly setting.\" I am Persian and am familiar with the hospitality of this culture and this does not represent Persian hospitality at all. Also I have never been insulted and asked never to return to a restaurant because my child is messy. This restaurant should not claim to be warm and friendly as it is not. The owners are completely inhospitable and very rude. I think that the owner of the restaurant should change the motto of this restaurant as this is not true.

Have you had an article about the phenomenal Khan Academy free education site? Every parent in RWC, the USA, and the world should know about it. I am "Khan Koach" to a few of my math students.

It sounds like I am not the only that has a problem entering an event on your system. When it gets to the part "enter address" it continues to say "it doesn't recognize the address, could you be more specific"
I can't be anymore specific than entering the entire address of the theater. Can you fix this bug in your system?

@Carol: To submit an event, it has to have a physical address. Often times parks lack that :\ Is it possible to add another physical address?
@Mark: This. Sounds. Awesome! Will definitely be there to film the event.
