UPDATE: 'No Bomb Threat' at Palo Alto Caltrain Station Wednesday

The Palo Alto Police confirms that found 'harmless electrical material.'

Written by Claudia Cruz.

If you see something, say something.

That's what a passerby did at the Palo Alto Caltrain station Wednesday morning when he saw what he thought looked like a bomb, Palo Alto Police spokesman Lt. Zach Perron confirm. The passerby told a bystander who called 9-1-1 at 9:17 a.m.

The PAPD responded to the station, located at 95 University Ave., and Caltrain's

control center made the decision to stop trains while the police investigated, Perron explained.

"Our officers responded immediately and were able to quickly determine that it was a harmless electrical material," Perron said.  By 9:30 a.m. officers had given the “all-clear.”

"No police report was generated.  No bomb squad was involved," Perron said. "Reports that there was a 'bomb threat' are not correct."

Caltrain suspended service during the brief police investigation, and three southbound trains were delayed by up to 23 minutes because of the incident, according to spokeswoman Christine Dunn.

According to Perron, this type of call actually comes in quite frequently.

“Fortunately, the vast majority of ‘suspicious devices’ turn out to be harmless items that simply look out of place to the caller for whatever reason,” he said. “We understand why people call us in these situations, and in fact we encourage people to report suspicious objects.”

“We would rather err on the side of caution and verify that something truly is harmless, out of an abundance of caution for public safety.”
