Stanford Women’s Basketball Player Nominated for Prestigious National Award

Chiney Ogwumike is being recognized for her work off the court.

Stanford University forward Chiney Ogwumike has been nominated for the 2014 Allstate WBCA Good Works Team.

Ogwumike’s community service accomplishments include:

  • Representing the Stanford women's basketball program at elementary schools and middle schools, meeting with students and talking to them about living a healthy, active lifestyle
  • Teaming up with Access to Success on a project to further its mission to help "underprivileged youth through athletic, educational and spiritual programs to reach their goals." To this end, Ogwumike went to work helping to raise a target amount of $30,000 to build a new basketball court for underprivileged youth in Nigeria

Ogwumike is one of 84 nominees. A final roster of 10 award recipients will be announced in February.
